Fi...Hi Pete

They handled this problem three ways.

First, you could daisy-chain a second Diablo drive onto an Alto, allowing you to access files on dp0 or dp1 device.

Second, file servers were established on the ethernet network allowing files to be stored remotely.

Third, a Trident disk could be installed (with its own controller logic) which is a device similar to an IBM 3330 drive. Each trident disk had a capacity of 80MB and the controller on an Alto could connect up to 16 trident drives.

Our Alto does not have the Trident logic cards installed nor do we have a Trident drive. We do have the potential to use the first two methods. We have another diablo drive, loaned by Al Kossow, that could be daisy chained, plus we have the Living Computer History museum bridge that provides a PC based file server.Carl Claunchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00359841432891565909noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8869371566442567811.post-54117850496351532017-06-24T10:19:13.207-07:002017-06-24T10:19:13.207-07:00"We did find that this disk had very little f..."We did find that this disk had very little free room, causing some out-of-space conditions as we played." How difficult would it be to change the Alto software to handle larger disks (images)? From what little I know it sounds as though it would be extraordinarily difficult.Petehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03609225990173046534noreply@blogger.com
