Arrived in Kansas City

Here we are Thursday evening, in the Kansas City area for an overnight stay before picking up the rental truck tomorrow morning and driving the final leg to Beloit, Kansas where the 1130 systems have been slumbering for decades. Joining up with Arthur at the airport, we rode over to the Motel 6 in Overland Park for a nights rest.

We took the opportunity to have a dinner together at Applebee's nearby, where we shared backgrounds, stories and got to know each other. As an ex-IBMer, Arthur worked as both an FE and SE (hardware and software engineer supporting customers). Initially his work was in the Washington DC area supporting federal clients but later he was involved with schools and businesses. He did quite a bit with 1130 systems, taught classes on Fortran programming to customers, and eventually moved on to teach computer science at a community college.

Alan, on the other hand, is new to the IT field, having graduated about a year ago from a college in Ireland with a degree in computer science and now getting experience and training in the US as part of an internship visa program.

The plan for the morning (Friday) will be a quick breakfast, pickup of the truck, stocking of some additional supplies and a three hour drive west to Beloit Kansas.
