WORKING TO UNSTICK THE OPERATION UNIT FUNCTIONS OF THE 1053
The 1053 operational unit commands the carrier return, line feed, space, backspace and tab operations. A clutch is tripped to provide rotary power for 180 or 360 degrees of the power shaft rotation. This is used to pull down on linkages near the rear of the machine that implement the operations.
The mechanisms and linkages for the operations can have several rotating parts, spring loaded, all of which must move freely for them to restore and leave the carrier free for normal typing operations. The links that trip the clutches in the first place must also move freely, as they are restored near the end of a clutch rotation and must latch back into the idle position.
I need all of this freed up before I can work on the character printing aspects of the machine. If it is simultaneously trying to return, tab, space and print, the results are not good.
